SKU PRT-DTG-DC-1

SK Dark Cotton Pretreatment (PRT-DTG-DC) is a pretreatment for DTG printing on black and dark cotton, and on natural fibres such as hemp and linen. Use it for prints with a white ink underbase before the colours. It helps white ink hold onto the fabric, with bright colour and good wash fastness. When sprayed at the right amount it leaves very little stain on dark fabric. Made in Thailand by S.K. Color & Chemicals and exported to more than 10 countries.

What it is for

  • Black and dark cotton, and natural-fibre fabrics
  • Prints with a white ink underbase followed by colour ink, for example with SK DTG white ink IJ-DTG-W393
  • Works with water-based DTG printers such as Brother GTX / GTX Pro / GTX Pro Bulk, Epson SC-F2100 / SC-F3070 and Ricoh Ri1000 / Ri2000
  • Spray by hand or use a pretreatment machine

How to use

  1. Mix 1 part pretreatment with 3 parts water (1 litre makes about 4 litres ready to use). Distilled or RO water is best. Shake well.
  2. Spray the mixed liquid evenly all over, about 20–30 g per 38 × 46 cm area, on a clean, dry shirt.
  3. Dry completely before printing: heat press at 165–180°C for 40–60 seconds, or tunnel dryer at 145–160°C for 100–140 seconds.
  4. Print, then cure the ink at the same settings.

These are starting values. Test with your own shirts, ink and printer before production.

PRT-DTG-DC tips from SK Fix Center

  • Mix it right: Measure 1 part pretreatment and 3 parts water with the same cup, so the ratio is always right. Do not use the 1:2 ratio in the Brother manual; that is for Brother's own pretreatment. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
  • Know how much you sprayed: Weigh the shirt before and after spraying; the difference is the pretreatment on the shirt. Aim for 20–30 g per 38 × 46 cm, and less for a smaller area. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
  • Spray evenly: Lint-roll the shirt first, slip a board inside so the liquid does not soak through, and take it out before pressing. Spray well away from the DTG printer; the mist can damage the print head. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
  • Dry it completely: Pressing many shirts in a row cools the press, so check the real temperature before and during work. Lift the shirt off so steam can escape, and add a little time if it is still damp. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
  • After pressing: Do not touch the treated area, do not stack treated shirts, and keep them dry. If a shirt waits a long time, press it again just before printing. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
  • Frame marks or stains: These usually come from spraying too much and can be washed out with water. Test on a hidden spot first whenever you use a new shirt. Step-by-step guide (in Thai) ›
